This Chinese proverb is the inspiration of mindfulness, reflecting the power of now. The moment of 20 years ago is long gone. One must focus on what can be done now, and get started.
Let's say you want to invest in real estate, was the best time 20 years ago? Not exactly, but it was a perfect timing around 2008 during the subprime mortgage crisis. There were so many foreclosures and you could have a bargain. If you missed it, is it now the (second) best time? it could be if you have the down payment fund in hand.
I don't have to put my money in the real estate market, and I don't need to plant a tree. But there are a lot of things I can start now, - get a doctoral degree, learn a new skill, find a better job, get married, write a book, start a business, adapt a healthier lifestyle, and more. After 5 years, 10 years, and 20 years, I'll see the results.
